In 2005, just after completing my BSc in Marine Sciences, I joined the Spanish Institute of Oceanography in Cádiz as an intern. I was by that time exploring areas of research before choosing a PhD topic and thought that biological oceanography (especially related to fisheries) was a good candidate. After completing the 6-month internship, I gained experience in oceanographic campaigns and in-land activities for fisheries stock assessments, but I decided that biological oceanography was not my thing (I had already felt the “seagrass attraction”). I, however, felt much satisfied with all the skills and knowledge I acquired and still nowadays apply them in my area of research. I even did my first (and last) scientific illustration.
